Dr. Kasim A. Mookhtiar
Dr. Kasim A. Mookhtiar, Managing Director, is also a co-founder of Advinus Therapeutics Ltd. Prior to co-founding Advinus, he was Vice President, New Drug Discovery Research, at Ranbaxy Laboratories Limited, where he led a team of over 200 scientists from multiple disciplines.
After completing a 5-year integrated MS in Chemistry at the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay, where he worked in Synthetic Organic Chemistry, Kasim pursued a PhD with Professor H. E. Van Wart at the Institute of Molecular Biophysics, Florida State University, Tallahassee, Florida, USA. His graduate work encompassed biochemistry, protein chemistry, enzyme kinetics and inhibition. Kasim followed up his graduate work with a postdoctoral stint at Yale University School of Medicine, where he learned molecular biology and structural biology (2D NMR).
He joined the Metabolic Diseases Drug Discovery group at the Bristol-Myers Squibb Pharmaceutical Research Institute in Princeton, NJ, USA, where he worked from1992 to 2003. Early in his career he pioneered of the Diabetes and Obesity programs at BMS and was then entrusted with the task of forming the Department of Aging Research in Drug Discovery, a very novel and cutting edge area for both basic and applied research. He was responsible for the strategic planning of this area and was also involved in numerous strategic efforts in the wider BMS activities.
Chief Executive Officer
Rajiv Malik is the Chief Executive Officer of Advinus Therapeutics. He was a founding employee of the Company and served as its Chief of Business Operations from inception to June 2012, during which time he played a pivotal role in setting up the company and driving its business and strategy. After a short stint away, Rajiv returned to Advinus to work with the MD and Board in driving the overall business and strategic efforts of the Company.
Rajiv has held several senior and leadership positions with leading companies in India and has diverse working experience in the Pharmaceutical, Biotech, Contract Research and IT sectors. He has over 25 years of experience in managing business operations particularly in startup and turnaround environments. Just prior to rejoining Advinus, Rajiv served as Executive Vice President at Intas Pharmaceuticals Limited, where he was responsible for the International Business of Intas, for all markets other than US and Europe. He also led the biosmilars and other biologics business of Intas as well as its corporate business development and licensing portfolio.
Rajiv holds a Master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA) from the US and a Bachelor’s degree in Economics.
Vikram K. Ramanathan, Ph.D.
Senior Vice President and Chief of Technical Operations
Dr. Vikram K. Ramanathan is Senior Vice President and Chief of Technical Operations at Advinus Bangalore. A founding employee of Advinus from 2005, he played a pivotal role in setting up its DMPK department and served the Company for about eight years. In addition to his role as Head of DMPK and Clinical Pharmacology, he also led the preclinical and clinical development of Advinus’ internal molecules. After a short stint away, he rejoined the Company in 2015.
Vikram obtained his PhD from the Pharmaceutical Chemistry graduate program (Pharmaceutics pathway), School of Pharmacy at the University of California at San Francisco under the guidance of Dr. Kathleen M. Giacomini in whose laboratory he studied epithelial neurotransmitter transporters and their role in pharmacokinetics and disposition. He subsequently did a postdoctoral fellowship in Dr. Zach W. Hall’s laboratory at the NIH, Bethesda, where he used cellular and molecular techniques to study the cellular trafficking and expression of the muscarinic acetylcholine receptor.
Vikram has 20 years of pharma industry experience in drug discovery and development, in both R&D and CRO settings, in the US and India. He started his career at SmithKline Beecham/GlaxoSmithKline in the Philadelphia area where he spent several years before returning to India to set up and head the Discovery DMPK department at Ranbaxy Research Laboratories in Gurgaon. Prior to rejoining Advinus, he was Vice President, DMPK and Bioanalysis at Cadila Healthcare Ltd. where he supported the development of NCEs, biologicals and generic drugs.
Amith G Yeshwanth
Vice President & Head – Finance
Amith G Yeshwanth is the Vice President & Head – Finance of Advinus Therapeutics. He is an Associate Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India. He is also a qualified Cost Accountant and Certified Information System Auditor. Amith was with Advinus during its start-up phase as the Head-Finance and then joined ICICI Ventures as Senior Vice President before re-joining Advinus in early 2016.
Amith has held several senior and leadership positions with leading companies in India like Ernst & Young, Ingersoll-Rand, ICICI Venture with diverse working experience in the Manufacturing, Pharmaceutical, Biotech, Contract Research and Private Equity sectors. Amith joined Advinus with proven abilities to contribute towards improvement in operations, business growth and profit through analytical MIS and effective internal controls. Just prior to joining Advinus, he was with ICICI Venture Funds Management Company, a subsidiary of ICICI Bank, as Senior Vice President-Finance overseeing the funds and SPV’s managed by the ICICI Venture, including accounting, treasury and taxation.
Vice President & Head – Business Development
Nilesh Wadhwa is a Life Sciences Executive with over 20+ years of rounded experience within Pharmaceuticals (incl. Generics), Nutritionals and OTC / Consumer Healthcare industry.
After graduating from Business School post his Bachelors in Pharmacy, he started his career in India and over the years has worked within Pharma / Consumer Healthcare Industry across various functions and multiple geographies covering Asia Pacific, Middle East, Africa and Europe.
During his career, he has handled several roles with rising responsibilities spanning sales & marketing, commercial operations, international market expansion and over the last few years in strategy and business development. He has worked with multinationals such as Solvay Pharmaceuticals, Banner Pharmacaps Inc., Sanofi (Asia Pacific) and more recently as Head of Business Development and Strategy at Takeda Pharmaceuticals Asia Pacific. Over time he has developed a strong understanding of the Regulatory framework, New Product development process, manufacturing operations and of course sales and marketing of Pharmaceuticals, Nutritionals, OTC / Consumer Healthcare as well as Biotech products
He has been actively involved in forging a series of alliances and has led and closed several licensing and merger & acquisition projects
Combining his technical background with his management skills and a global cross-cultural working experience, he has evolved as a professional who can drive unique strategic and functional initiatives and make significant contributions to the organisations he serves and the industry in general.
